Our leadership team has been in the surgery center industry since the 1970s, has launched more than 100 successful surgery centers, surgical hospitals, imaging centers and medical office buildings, and has managed more than $1 billion in revenues.
Richard G. Hanley. Mr. Hanley (Dick) has extensive experience relating to the development and management of healthcare service operations. In 1995, Dick was a founding partner of Horizon Health Services, Inc., which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems in 1999. Dick is currently the President and CEO of Health Inventures, the surviving entity of the management buyout from Johnson & Johnson. From 1992-1995 Dick served as President and CEO of Surgical Partners of America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vivra, Inc., that owned and operated ambulatory surgery centers. Previously, he was the senior executive responsible for operating Sutter Ambulatory Care Corporation (SACC), a diversification division of Sutter Health, from 1981-1992. Dick is a board member for the Ambulatory Surgery Center Foundation, the national association for the surgery center industry. Dick holds a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota.
Brian J. Medley. Brian has over 18 years of diverse experience in healthcare and public accounting. Brian’s most recent ten years have been focused on Ambulatory Care Services with Health Inventures. Brian currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer. During his tenure at Health Inventures, he has held several key positions in operations. As Director of Support Services, Brian was responsible for managing the delivery of accounting, payor relations, business office and materials management support to Health Inventures’ ASCs. Brian has provided operational leadership to his ASC board members on organization formation, licensure, financing, valuations and ongoing ambulatory operations. A CPA by training, Brian started his career in public accounting and has accumulated a broad base of experience in industries as diverse as high-tech software, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and finance. Brian holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Brian has achieved the credentials of a Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) from the Board of Ambulatory Surgery Certification.
Dennis Martin. In 1995, Dennis was a founding partner of Horizon Health Services, Inc., which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems in 1999. From 1992-1995, Dennis served as Vice President of Development for Surgical Partners of America. Previously, he served as Vice president/Treasurer of Horizon Health Systems which was formed as a result of the reorganization of Zirkle, Lee and Associates in 1986 in which he was a consultant. Dennis currently holds the position of Senior Vice President of Health Systems. Dennis began his career in healthcare as a Project Architect/Designer for Samborn, Stekette, Otis & Evans, Inc. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Kent State University.
Christian Ellison. Christian brings sixteen years of ambulatory healthcare services experience to his position of Vice President of Business Development. He has formed numerous physician hospital joint venture partnerships and been instrumental in building Health Inventures’ business domestically and internationally during his ten years with the Company. Prior to joining Health Inventures, Christian was a senior consultant to the healthcare industry with Arthur Andersen. His focus was primarily on physician venture formation and acquisition, strategic business planning, and operations improvement for large, hospital owned physician practices. Christian also served as Administrative Director of a large orthopedic physician group practice during the early to mid 1990s. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from George Mason University and a Bachelor's degree in Health Policy and Administration from Penn State University.
Mary Beth Brust. Mary Beth joined Health Inventures in 2000 and was promoted to Vice President ASC Operations in 2003. She has over 18 years of progressive experience in healthcare administrative positions and has been involved in outpatient service delivery for 12 years. Her experience began as a medical lab technologist, and has advanced through a series of hospital and administrative positions. Since joining Health Inventures, Mary Beth has held several positions with increasing operational and new business responsibilities. She holds a Master’s degree in Hospital and Health Administration from Xavier University, a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from The College of Mount St. Joseph. She has achieved the credentials of a Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC) from the Board of Ambulatory Surgery Certification.
Suzanne Rogers. Suzanne brings 17 years of human resource (HR) experience to her position as Vice President of Human Resources. Suzanne has responsibility for all facets of human resource services provided to Health Inventures’ ASCs. She also has operational responsibility for Employment Management Solutions, an employee staff leasing company owned by Health Inventures. Suzanne has been employed by Health Inventures since 2000 in a variety of HR roles of increasing responsibility. Prior to joining Health Inventures, she worked for the family of CH2M Hill Companies and The Washington Group, formerly Morrison Knudsen. Suzanne holds a Bachelor's degree from George Mason University and is an active member of the Society for Human Resources and the Colorado Human Resources Association.
Brian Shelton. As Vice President of Support Services for Health Inventures, Brian leads a team with network responsibility for payor contracting, business office operations, clinical licensure and accreditation, facility development, coding, transition of acquisitions, and operation set up for de novo projects. Brian Shelton enjoys over thirteen years of diverse business management and leadership experience in healthcare business operations and marketing. Prior to this role, he held the position of Operations Director for Ascent Health (United Kingdom division of Health Inventures). During his time abroad, Brian was instrumental in the commissioning of four ambulatory healthcare facilities for the National Health Service along with the operational management of private hospitals in Oxford, England and the Waterford, Republic of Ireland. Brian’s education includes a Master's degree in Business Administration-Marketing from Lindenwood University and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration-Management from Truman State University. He holds the credential of Certified Administrator of Surgery Center (CASC) from the Board of Ambulatory Surgery Certification.
Glen H. Weaver. Glen joined Health Inventures in 1997 as CFO. Prior to joining the company, he served as CFO and VP of Finance for Golden Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Subsidiaries. Glen has nearly 30 years of accounting experience including expertise in domestic and international consolidations and financial reporting, corporate and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) annual budgeting process along with all aspects of client accounting. His responsibilities include oversight of all corporate financial reporting for Health Inventures international and domestic companies as well as monthly accounting and financial statement preparation for Health Inventures’ clients. Glen is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and passed the CPA exam in 1988.
Thomas Wherry, M.D. Dr. Wherry serves as Health Inventures’ Consulting Medical Director. He also serves as Medical Director & Chief of Anesthesia for the Surgery Center of Maryland. Dr. Wherry has been part of the Health Inventures team since 1996 when he was a pivotal member in opening the Surgery Center of Maryland. In addition, he is a surveyor for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. As Consulting Medical Director, Dr. Wherry provides comprehensive guidance and direction in a variety of clinical matters including anesthesia service analysis, policy development, pharmacy formulary planning, designing quality assurance and risk management activities, and accreditation preparation. Dr. Wherry graduated from Ohio State University and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati. Following an Internship in Internal Medicine, he completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He received additional training in ambulatory and pediatric anesthesia and pain management, and earned a one-year certificate in The Business of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Wherry is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
