KU MedWest Ambulatory Surgery Center, LLC is a multi-specialty ASC joint venture between the University of Kansas Hospital Authority (KU) and physicians affiliated with KU.

The majority of physician owners are Faculty of KU and the ASC is used to support the training of residents and fellow who are credentialed to work at the center.

The ASC contains 3 ORs and 1 procedure room.

Health Inventures (HI) assisted in the transition of the center from a department of the hospital to its current joint ventured status including management of all regulatory and operational factors involved and has provided management services since that time.

In addition, HI provides all staff to the ASC under an Employee Management Agreement with an HI affiliate.

Results:

• Approximately 4,400 cases are performed at the ASC each year.
• The ASC has been profitable since its formation as a joint venture and has distributed profits to its members consistently since its inception.
• Patient satisfaction: surgical 4.78, non-surgical 4.87 on 5.0 scale
• Distributions to date (year-end 2007) are $9,257,307
