Ambulatory surgery center management company selects physician executive following thorough search
BROOMFIELD, CO., Dec. 9, 2010 – Leading developer and operator of ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals, Health Inventures, has named Dr. Charles Peck as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 3, 2011.
This announcement comes after current CEO Richard Hanley detailed his plans earlier in the spring to retire at the end of the year. Hanley is widely known as an innovator of the ambulatory surgery center industry, having first joined the industry almost 30 years ago. A founder of Health Inventures, Hanley has grown the company into a national leader with thirty surgical facilities in eleven states.
Health Inventures is widely considered the pioneer of physician hospital joint venture surgery centers, with it being the company’s sole focus since 1995. Recently, the company has continued its expansion providing services in Europe and the Middle East. Hanley has served in a variety of industry leadership positions, including his current role on the Boards of the Ambulatory Surgery Foundation and Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, which he has held for the last seven years.
“Being part of the evolution of the ambulatory surgery center industry has been the most rewarding experience of my professional career. I am proud that Health Inventures has helped so many hospitals and physicians provide a higher level of surgical services in their communities,” says Mr. Hanley.
Dr. Peck comes to the ASC firm with over 30 years of diverse healthcare experience. An internist and rheumatologist by training, Dr. Peck has previously served as a clinician, scientist, faculty member, executive, and partner in worldwide healthcare consulting firms. Prior to joining Health Inventures, he served as the Chief Medical Officer and Managing Director of FTI Healthcare, a healthcare consulting firm specializing in change management, financial advisory and consulting services to healthcare businesses and providers. Dr. Peck’s particular areas of focus at the firm were clinical integration, physician enterprise development, physician and hospital alignment, clinical operations and care management.
“The rapidly changing healthcare marketplace creates significant opportunities for companies with the wherewithal and reputation of Health Inventures,” says Dr. Peck. “Ambulatory service development and operations along with physicianhospital alignment are core competencies that will be in heavy demand among providers attempting to be competitive in the new delivery landscape. I look forward to the challenge of working with the Company’s leadership to build upon their significant accomplishments to date.”
Previously, Dr. Peck has served in senior executive roles at large insurance companies, physician organizations, consulting firms, and entrepreneurial healthcare delivery companies. He is a featured author who is often sought to speak in front of national groups such as the Governance Institute and the American College of Physician Executives, among others.
